Psalm for Today, Psalm 22

25 From you comes the theme of my praise in the great assembly; before those who fear you will I fulfil my vows.
26
The poor will eat and be satisfied; they who seek the LORD will praise him--may your hearts live forever!
27 All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD,  and all the families of the nations will bow down before him,
28
for dominion belongs to the LORD and he rules over the nations.
29 All the rich of the earth will feast and worship; all who go down to the dust will kneel before him--those who cannot keep themselves alive.
30
Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord.
31 They will proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn --  for he has done it.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
As it was in the beginning, is now and shall be forever.  Amen.

Collect for The Fifth Sunday of Easter

Almighty God, who through your only begotten Son Jesus Christ have overcome death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: grant that, as by your grace going before us you put into our minds good desires, so by your continual help we may bring them to good effect; through Jesus Christ our risen Lord, who is alive and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Pastoral Symphony

Pastoral Symphony or is it tea and sympathy? During this period when we are without a full-time Chaplain, until Canon Derek Smith arrives in August, our “in Church” clergy are happy to provide pastoral care to any of our family in need. Should you require a Chaplain, for whatever reason, please telephone, Marvin Bamforth, 99539144, Eric Freeman, 25933781, Geoff Prenton, 25434612 or Lew Scudder 25542866. Alternatively, please talk to a Church Warden.

Car Parking

Sometimes we have problems with car parking and some folk have difficulty in getting out!! Please park considerately if you possibly can and if you know you are blocking someone in, please move your car before having coffee. Alternatively, the University Car Park next door is available for us to use. Please remove your car by midday.

Songs of Praise

Please see notice on the porch board. Michael Crawford invites us to Songs of Praise in the amphitheatre at Deryneia on May 10th at 7.30 p.m.

The occasion is ‘Pentecost’ and we have selected Hymns and Songs both traditional and contemporary in an effort to ‘suit all tastes.’

The idea is to help Christians to worship together but also to give the opportunity for inviting non-Christian friends to an event in this popular and familiar format, ‘Songs of Praise.’ The emphasis will be on congregational singing with drama, interviews and a short message on the theme of ‘Pentecost.’ It will be very ‘user friendly’

For more details, please contact Michael 23811045

Congratulations

Our congratulations go to Eric & Vivienne’s daughter, Soraya, studying creative & decorative crafts, who was nominated for an award because of her commitment to the course. At Southend Adult Community College, they try to encourage everyone & have about 30 courses specifically for people with learning difficulties. Soraya suffers from cerebral palsy & has a lot of trouble with her hands, but is very determined. Well done.

Help One Another

During this time of inter-regnum, please be aware of anything extra that needs to be done. We are ALL responsible for checking that lights are off, doors are shut, gates are closed. If you can see a little job needs doing, please do it, whether it means pulling up a few weeds, putting the rubbish bags out or shutting the Church doors firmly. Every little counts and it is that extra straw that broke the camel’s back. Thank you.

Pamela's PostScript

Dear Friends,

It is Sunday night once more and time for me to send your weekly offering. I know some of you far afield enjoy my words with Monday's breakfast. I actually got it to the printer's much earlier than usual on Thursday, and thanks to Chris, both sides were printed this week!!
Dare I mention the weather? We have had rain today!! Not a lot, but enough to make the balconies wet and the windows dirty again! Lulu was swimming in the pool in the rain, thoroughly enjoying herself! I won't tell you what she looked like though as she didn't come prepared to swim - and I am a little (?) bigger than her as well as being considerably older! However, I think Katy is now overtaking me in the height stakes!!
The miracle happened at Sunday School. Little Megan wouldn't go with the boys first of all but Daphne started off with 3 girls and 3 boys and finished up with 6 girls and 4 boys - a wide range of ages too. She was exhausted - and having taken Sunday School for the past 4 weeks, I know how she felt. Inge has had her arm twisted for next week.......

There were lots of different faces in Church this morning too - quite a few folk on holiday - and visitors who come once or twice a year. It is good that friends like these can join us for lunch too. We were only 14 at Michael's today, but enjoyed food, fun and fellowship.
One of our regular visitors, all the way from New York, had a birthday today and in typical Joan Lomaki fashion, she told me I could tell you how old she is - 86!! Congratulations Joan.

It was also lovely to see another of our senior members in Church today. Elizabeth Bailey is about 6 weeks older than Joan and joined us in her wheel chair after many months of being house-bound.

Money for the May Fayre is still dribbling in too and all said what a happy day it was. Weren't we lucky with the weather too? We never have a contingency plan.......

So until next week dear friends, may God keep you safe.

Love and blessings,

Pamela
